Cosmic Crit’s “Monster March” Challenge

Hello and welcome to our March Fan Challenge. This month we challenge fans to step in the shoes of Doctor Frankenstein and continue to help us build on the universe that is Starfinder by creating some wicked, or wickedly cute, monsters. The Crew is leaving Castrovel and its beautiful jungles but new creatures and aberrations await them on the next step of their adventure. Will one of your monsterrific creations be what is lying in wait for them, ready to welcome them with open claws or hooves to the next great stage of the Dead Suns AP?

Build-a-Monster

Monsters in Starfinder are as varied and weird as anything else in a sci-fi universe. The creatures that populate the planets and moons are part of what helps makes Starfinder come alive when people play. This challenge seeks to arm GMs everywhere with some monsters they can use to cause havoc and mayhem on their players.

Entries will be collected and the Crew will vote on their top 5 favorites. These favorites will go into Patrick’s table for random encounters and may appear on the show at any moment. The top 5 will also go into a voting poll that everyone can participate in. The three finalists who get the most votes will receive a Paizo PDF (just in time for Pact Worlds release!), and the Grand Prize Winner will also have their monster brought to life with commissioned artwork.

Entry Guidelines

Give Your Monster a Name – Every iconic monster has a name that brings fear into any PC who faces off against it. You can name your monster anything you want, but please keep it appropriate.

Create a Description – Get creative and specific. If you’re the Grand Winner a artist will be working off of this description so really make your new fluffy/scaly terror come alive here. Not only is physical appearance important but you can even include mannerisms and personality traits to help give your monster more dimension. Top off your monster with some truly nasty special abilities or signature attacks to really create that one of a kind Gnak murdering machine.  

(Optional) Make the Stats – Go over to the Starfinder Monster Builder tool and give your creation some muscle. Create anything that is CR 4-8. You can add combat tactics, ecology and more. This is for anyone who wants to go another mile in creating a specific vision. Don’t want to make stats? No pressure. Our GM will make the stats of any monster who gets into the top 5.

Guidelines for Submitting

• By submitting to this challenge, you give us the right to use your submitted work/piece on Cosmic Crit and distribute it for free. We will also need to edit and balance these in relation to other entries.
• To receive a gift for your selected submission, you must have an active Paizo account and provide that  to us after we use your submission on the show. Please include how you would like to be contacted and credited for your winning submission.
• You can submit multiple times, but if we use 10 of your submissions, you still only get a single gift.
• Please don’t submit anything offensive, inappropriate for a general audience or distasteful. Keep it PG-13.
