Monster March Grand Prize Winner

Hey Crittermanders,

Back in March, we ran a Fan Submission Challenge to make monsters to fill the Starfinder Universe with frightening and unusual creatures. The grand prize winner we said would appear on the podcast, and would have art commissioned to immortalize the creature in the annals of history within the Critter-verse.

We’re happy to announce the Colin W. was our winner with his submission the Liquid Carbon Golem. From a design point of view, I think it’s a really fun spin on a classic monster type, and as a GM and player I can tell you that this is a formidable foe! Check out the stats and talk to the creator in our fan Discord channel here. And see the Liquid Carbon Golem in action as it tries to kill our party in Episode 034: MonsterUnknown’s Splattergrounds!

Liquid Carbon Golem

Your eyes are struggling to adjust to what you are seeing. This mass of black absorbs every shred of light. You find it difficult to follow its movements as every shift in its form is perfectly concealed.

The liquid carbon golem is created from a large puddle of ferro-fluid, a pile of carbon nanotubes and infused with technomantic nano machines. These formless monstrosities are excellent assassins. Their bodies move like that of an ooze allowing them to cling to and climb surfaces. While the carbon nanotubes that run through them act as near perfect conductors and armor, they also absorb all light that falls on them. In fact these golems are made to use this and their natural formlessness to maximum advantage. It is near impossible to actually see any limbs the creature forms against the perfect black of it’s body.

Liquid Carbon Golems always strike from the shadows, walls, or even the ceiling. Using their surroundings to maximum effect. They are explicitly created as assassins. If you have encountered one there is one thing of which you can be absolutely certain. There is a powerful Technomancer that wants YOU, Dead.
